Vehicle Diagnostics
Answers start with the right questions.
A warning light, recurring noise, or change in performance? Tell us what you are noticing. Our service team helps investigate the cause before recommending a repair.
Less guesswork.
A clearer next step.
Your description helps guide the visit. Depending on the concern, diagnosis may involve a scan, inspection, measurements, or a road test.
Tell us what changed.
When does the concern happen? Mention vehicle speed, temperature, warning messages, and any recent work.
Discuss the testing.
Ask what the proposed diagnostic work includes, how much it costs, and what happens if more testing is needed.
Review the next step.
Ask what the testing found, what repair is recommended, and what the estimate includes.
Does the vehicle feel unsafe?
Severe shaking, overheating, smoke, or difficulty steering or braking are reasons to stop safely and arrange assistance. Follow your owner’s manual rather than continuing to an appointment.
Find the cause.
Understand the plan.
Our ASE-credentialed technicians and service advisors help you understand the findings and recommended next steps. For intermittent concerns, notes or a safe recording can help explain what you are experiencing.

Diagnostic Service Details & Common Questions
Vehicle Diagnostics in Southern Pines, NC
Southern Pines Nissan welcomes all makes and models from Aberdeen, Pinehurst, and across the Sandhills. Share your vehicle’s year, make, model, mileage, and concern so the team can discuss the right appointment.
Is a code scan the same as diagnosis?
No. A scan retrieves information stored by vehicle systems. Diagnosis combines that information with appropriate testing to investigate the cause. A code alone does not tell you which part must be replaced.
What if the problem only happens sometimes?
Note when it occurs, how long it lasts, and what conditions seem to trigger it. A photo of a message or recording of a sound, taken safely, can help. Intermittent concerns may require additional time to reproduce.
How much does diagnostic testing cost?
Ask your advisor about the proposed testing, charges, and authorization process. Diagnostic work and the repair are separate; discuss how each is estimated before work begins.
Should I clear warning codes before coming in?
Leave codes and messages available when possible. Tell your advisor about any recent code clearing, battery disconnection, or repairs.
Can every concern be resolved during one visit?
Timing depends on the concern, testing, parts availability, and whether the symptom can be reproduced. Ask your advisor about the expected plan and updates.
